AJC Derby Quinella For Montjeu
When White Robe Lodge announced their newest stallion, Gallant Guru, was a son of Montjeu, many cynics felt this was a sireline unsuitable for Australasia. For , despite phenomenal success in the Northern Hemisphere and subsequently high prices for his yearlings in New Zealand, it was thought the slow-maturing nature of his progeny were going to be unsuitable for Australasian racing.
This year's AJC Derby, which saw five Montjeu progeny lining up, and two of his sons, Roman Emperor and Harris Tweed providing the quinella, well and truly settled those concerns.
This followed last year's result, when Nom De Jeu, a son of Montjeu from one of White Robe's own female families, ran out a convincing winner. He subsequently ran a gallant second in the Caulfield Cup in the spring.
Gallant Guru's oldest progeny are about to be weaned and are an outstanding group of individuals. Understandably, White Robe Lodge are looking forward to presenting his stock at next year's Yearling Sale series.
Gallant Guru, himself was a Group Two winner and as a son of Derby-producing daughter of Don't Say Halo, has all the attributes to be a top sire. He is being given every chance by White Robe Lodge and at a sevice fee of just $4000, is phenomenal value for breeders.
