White Robe Lodge Leading Vendor at South Island Sale

A colt by New Zealand's leading sireO'Reilly(NZ)topped New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales Series South Island Session in Christchurch yesterday, knocked down for $64,000.

John Foote Bloodstock purchased the colt catalogued at Lot 67 from Berkley Stud. The bay colt is out the unraced Pins mare Pamper who is a full-sister to stakes winners Crepe De Chine (Pins) and Glam Slam (Pins) and is also a half-sister to Singapore Group 1 winner Arenti (O'Reilly) who is a three- quarter-brother to the colt.

O'Reilly has been in hot form during the Sydney Autumn Carnival, siring yesterday's Group 1 Doncaster Handicap winner Sacred Falls (NZ) and Silent Achiever (NZ), the winner of the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes and Group 1 BMW Stakes.

"He's a typical O'Reilly and O'Reilly is going so well at the moment, plus he has a nice pedigree and he moved well so he was an obvious horse here," commented Foote.

"I've been coming down to the South Island Sale for 25 years and I've had a bit of luck from it. An O'Reilly filly I bought here, Power O'Raylee, was trained by Peter Moody and did very well in Melbourne, I also bought More Bountiful who was a Group 1 winner in Hong Kong."

Queensland-based Foote ended the Sale as the leading individual buyer purchasing seven horses for a total spend of

$226,000. Fellow Queensland-based buyer Liam Birchley of LB Racing was the second leading purchaser, signing for six horses at a total spend of $105,500.

The top priced filly at the Sale was Lot 125 by Shocking, purchased by Mr LG Didham for $37,000. Presented by Highden Park, the bay filly is out of the dual stakes placed mare Attalla (Volksraad).

The reformed South Island Sale which moved from a sale of untried two-year-olds and mixed bloodstock held in August to yesterday's date selling yearlings and mixed bloodstock attracted a catalogue of 177 horses, over double the number of horses catalogued last year.

The Sale saw 103 horses sold for an aggregate of

$1,106,950 at an average of $10,747, an increase of 7%. The median dropped slightly from $8,000 last year to

$7,500 this year, with the clearance rate finishing at 65%.

White Robe Lodge retained the leading vendor title, holding off Berkley Stud for the second consecutive year, finishing with 10 horses sold for an aggregate

of $237,500. White Robe Lodge was also the leading vendor by average (three or more horses sold) with their 10 Lots sold averaging $23,750.

The leading sire (with three or more horses sold) was Raise The Flag with eight of his progeny selling for an average of $22,813 including the second highest price of the day Lot 119, another purchase by John Foote for $48,000.

All yearlings purchased at the South Island Session are eligible to be nominated for the Karaka Million Series with entries closing for yearlings purchased at the Sale on 13 May.
