What's In A Name?

McDonald who cleared  maiden ranks at Riverton (01/05/2014), is the namesake of White Robe Lodge matriarch, Lorraine Anderton.  She was Lorraine McDonald when she married Brian Anderton in Mosgiel on April 30, 1960. Brian had established White Robe four years earlier.

Brian named the horse, a 3yr-old filly. He and Lorraine bred McDonald who is by Gallant Guru, the up and coming White Robe Lodge stallion.

"I  gave her (McDonald) a long preparation as I knew I would be in trouble if she didn't win a race,'' quipped Brian.

McDonald is  out of McMammoth, who won the 2002 Hororata Cup at Riccarton when trained by Brian and Shane Anderton for Mrs Leonce Sharrock.

Brian and Lorraine took over McMammoth (by McGinty) as a broodmare.  She is also the dam of McMay (by Yamanin Vital) who has won two races this season from the stable of Tony and Lyn Prendergast. McMay is raced on leased from the Andertons by Val French, of Prebbleton.

McDonald is the last of seven foals left by McMammoth, who died in 2012.
