Include retired to stud
Include, the winner of three listed races for White Robe Lodge stud managers Wayne and Karen Stewart when trained by Brian and Shane Anderton, has been retired to stud after a tendon injury.
The 4yr-old Gallant Guru - She's Snubbed mare won the South Island Breeders' Stakes at Riccarton two starts back then finished a creditable sixth in the group one NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes at Te Aroha. She won five races in a row this season and 10 of her 16 starts and $186,000 in stakes. She won the Dunedin and Southland Guineas last season.
"She has done tendon and a scan has shown a tear. She will now be a broodmare by the look of it,'' said Wayne Stewart.
She was bred by the Stewarts. WR sold a Raise The Flag - Notable filly for $20,000 at the South Island sale of yearlings on Friday (17/4/2015). The buyer was Ballarat trainer Darren Weir, who has Unfurl, a Raise The Flag - Emerald Fire 3yr-old filly who won a 1600m maiden at Stawell on April 5 when having her third start. Six of the nine offerings from WRL were passed in but WRL principal, Brian Anderton was not despondent.
"There was just not the buyers there. I like to meet the market but the bids were just way under value,'' he said. " I have taken a few home from South Island sales such as Heroic Guru, Valiant and Clarendon Ruby and they have turned out alright.''
Heroic Guru won two of his three starts as a 3yr-old in 2013 before he was sold to Hong Kong. Valiant won eight races before his untimely death in February. Clarendon Ruby won the group three 1993 Booth Kennedy Stakes at Riccarton.
