White Robe Lodge was to the fore at the South Island awards for the 2014-15 season made in Christchurch on Friday night (18/9/2015). WR principals Brian and Lorraine Anderton took the breeder award and WR stallion, Gallant Guru took the sire award. Brian and Lorraine bred horses who won races in Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand during the season. Foremost among the performers was Who Shot Thebarman, winner of the group three Bart Cummings at Flemington, third in the Melbourne Cup and second in the Sydney Cup during the season. Who Shot Thebarman, who has also won the G1 Auckland Cup, is a complete WR product, being by Yamanin Vital from Ears Carol, whose achievement has been notable for a SI broodmare. Gallant Guru sired 32 winners from 63 races and $775,000 in NZ last season with additional winners in Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Ghibellines, newcomer to the stallion ranks at WR, has a fine book of mares, among them listed race winners, Miss Millbrook and Lesley Brook, She's Snubbed (the dam of stakes performers Include and Sharp Princess), Zenno Queen (the dam of recent stakes placed 3yr-old New York Minute), dual Canterbury Gold Cup winner, Inferno and Cherry Creek (Canterbury Belle Stakes). Turn The Page, the first mare covered by Ghibellines, is 19 days in foal.
