Draw for free Stallion Service
Peter White of Dunedin was successful in the draw for a free stallion service at White Robe Lodge. The draw was made at Wingatui on Saturday (6/2/2016). White was among 90 clients of the stud operation of WR this season involved in the draw. He had Huhu Lass visiting Ghibellines. He can choose his free service from Gallant Guru, Raise The Flag or Ghibellines.
Jo Gordon, of Invercargill and Westwood trainer Amber Hoffman drew other offerings made by WR. Gordon has taken grazing from mid- September to mid-December. She had Fiesty Chick served by Gallant Guru. Hoffman, who had Hughes That Girl served by Ghibellines will receive a foaling fee.
The draws were made on the occasion of the 43rd running of the White Robe Lodge Handicap (1600m). The Diamond One added a notable chapter to the history of the race when she became the first horse to win the event three times in succession. It was a special win for Claire Anderton, the trainer of The Diamond One. Claire has been the regular track work rider of The Diamond One. She put the finishing touches on the mare when she won the race last year after the tragic death of her trainer husband, Steve Anderton three days beforehand. This season Claire has done all the work with The Diamond One and it has not been plain sailing. The mare was having only her third start for the season. The Dennis brothers, who race The Diamond One, were rewarded for their loyalty in leaving The Diamond One in the Anderton stable in Wingatui Rd. The brothers owned and trained The Fantasy, winner of the race in 1980 and 81. They have been long time clients of WR. The Fantasy left the multiple group one winners, The Phantom and The Phantom Chance when they bred her to WR sire, Noble Bijou.Their fine mare The Dimple was by Noble Bijou. Brian (uncle of Steve) and Shane Anderton saddled Gallant Ruby for a dashing win the $20,000 Steve Anderton Memorial Trophy (1200m) at the premier day on Saturday. The stable also won a $25,000 rating 75 race with Quartet.
