Broadside wins in Sydney
Broadside, the son of Raise The Flag, won first up over 1600m for the Gai Waterhouse stable at Kembla Grange on Saturday. Waterhouse was joined this season in a training partnership by Adrian Bott, who has been her assistant trainer and racing manager. Broadside (ex the Straight Strike mare Anam Cara) was bought by clients of the stable after wins at Otaki and Trentham in the winter of last year from three starts for Levin trainer Geoff Haigh.
"The last horse Gai got by a White Robe Lodge sire was Herculian Prince (by Yamanin Vital) and he went on to win a Metropolitan Handicap (2010),'' said Wayne Stewart, the WRL stud manager.
The Raise The Flag mare Princess Brook won a $25,000 rating 85 1400m at Riccarton on September 3. She has been nominated for the New Zealand Cup (3200m) there in November.

The Reliable Man filly is the first foal of Ortem Fire, who won the listed NZ Bloodstock Insurance Stakes (1600m) at Riccarton.

"Barry Purdon (trainer) felt she was not quite right behind in the time she had been in Auckland," said Brian Anderton, who raced her with the estate of Bryan Kennedy. The 9yr-old mare has a booking to Bettor's Delight. She won eight of her 26 starts and took a mile record of 1.54.6 at Ashburton.
