Tommy Tucker progressing well
Tommy Tucker, a top performer for White Robe Lodge last season, made a good impression in a barrier trial at Wingatui on Wednesday (28/9/2016). He ran on late for third to Passsito and his stablemate, Gallant Ruby over 800m on a dead inside grass. Tommy Tucker won the Timaru Cup and the Canterbury Jockey Club Easter Cup, both listed races last season. He was judged the best South Island metric miler.
Tommy Tucker, who has not raced since early May, has been nominated for the $230,000 Coupland's Bakeries Mile at Riccarton on November 9. Gallant Ruby looks in good for a fresh campaign. She won over 1200m at the premier meeting at Wingatui in February.
WRL co-trainer Shane Anderton was delighted with the performance of the team at Gore on Friday when the majority when starting afresh.
"It was a great result with three seconds, two thirds and a fifth from six runners,'' he said. "A couple of them didn't have much in their favour in the running."
Gallant Boy, Willow and Waylay finished second and the third placegetters were Quartet and Itemize with Coulee fifth under 58kg.
Gallant Boy was run down by Koxinga, another Gallant Guru gelding.
