White Robe Lodge team coming to hand for new season
White Robe Lodge trainers Brian and Shane Anderton were pleased with the efforts of members of the team resuming at the Wingatui meeting on Wednesday (October 24).
"We had four in and Markwood and Raise You Five finished second, Slammer, sixth and Riding High, eighth,'' said Brian.
"They had not raced since the autumn or winter."
They are among some 40 horses in work at WRL.
Tommy Tucker is the best performed member of the team with 16 wins. He did preparatory work with his part-owner, Ian Nichol before re-joining the stable. Tommy Tucker won the group three White Lodge Weight-For-Age at Wingatui in February.
Gallant Boy, the brother to Patrick Erin, has not raced since April. The son of Gallant Guru - Mega Babe has won eight races and finished second in the White Robe Lodge Weight-For- Age.
Cabernet, who made a good impression last season with a win and a third in three starts, recorded 50.7 in winning a jumpout at Wingatui on October 17. She is a 4yr-old by Pins from Miss Aurora raced by the McKenzie family. They also have a 2yr-old sister to Cabernet and a 3yr-old filly by Rip Van Winkle - Larrinka in work.
A 3yr-old half sister by Showcasing to multiple group race winner Coulee is in work.
Ablaze (six), Taieri Gem (three), Zabay (two) and the two - win Crispin and one-win Mossy Creek are on the active list. Crispin, a Raise The Flag - Red Stilettos mare, displayed considerable potential when winning twice from seven starts last season.
Dante Fire is a 4yr-old daughter of Raise The Flag and dual Canterbury Gold Cup winner Inferno. She had two starts last season.
Jacquotte Delahye, who was bought in New Zealand by an Australian client to be mated with Raise The Flag, is being tried as a racing proposition. She is a 4yr-old by Reliable Man from Pyrate Princess.
An Australian-bred member of the team is Nasheeta(Smart Missile - Miss Exi).
Two-year-olds from the first crop of WRL sire Ghibellines in work are a gelding out of Goldie Girl and fillies out of Rugby Street, Preferred Flight and Swelter. A 3yr-old filly by Raise The Flag out of Rugby Street has been sold to Australia.
Raise You Ten is in pre-training with Amber Hoffman at the beach at Waikouaiti. The 2017 Gore Guineas winner added two wins and eight minor placings to his record last season.
Breakdance was put aside for a spell after finishing second to Red Major at Gore on September 28. Red Major won his next start. Breakdance, a Rock 'n' Pop 4yr-old has had second and a fifth in his other two starts.
