Nine stakes wins for progeny of Raise The Flag
White Robe Lodge sire Raise The Flag has sired the winners of nine stakes races with the success of Yogi in the $A150,000 Sandown Cup (3200m) on Saturday. The Darren Weir-trained Yogi was having his first start in blinkers. Yogi has also won the listed Port Adelaide Cup.
Raise The Flag is also the sire of stakes winners Broadside (group three Newcastle Cup and listed ATC Cup), Parthesia (Tasmanian Oaks and listed Bagot Handicap), Civil Disobedience (Tasmanian Derby), Etah James (gr three Lord Reims Stakes) and Raise You Ten (Gore Guineas).
David and Hazel Voice, the Weedons (Canterbury) breeders of Yogi, have returned Malozza (Grand Lodge - Line Of Fire), the dam of Yogi, to Raise The Flag this spring. They have also bred her half sister, Dane Lodge (by Viking Ruler) to that sire.
Raise The Flag sired the maiden winners Redford and Pamir at the New Zealand Cup meeting. Redford is the first foal of Red Ruby, a Dehere mare who won four races. He is raced by Washdyke breeders Bruce (the trainer) and Karen Tapper. Pamir, owned and trained at Riccarton by breeder John Luxton, is the first foal of One Chance (by Golan).
Ghibellines, the WRL sire whose first crop are 2yr-olds, was represented by Ranger, who finished third at Te Rapa on November 10. A brother to Ranger(ex Turn The Page) has been entered by WRL for Book 3 of the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling sales at Karaka in February. WRL also has a colt by Ghibellines from Ruby Rose entered for Book 3. The stud has colts by Ghibellines out of Personal Column, Whare Creek and Upclosenpersonal entered for Book 2. A colt by Rip Van Winkle from Our Zara (by Yamanin Vital) is also been prepared for Book 2.
New Year's Jay, who won eight races and took a mile record of 1.54.6 for Brian Anderton and the Estate of Bryan Kennedy, has foaled a colt by Sweet Lou. She will be served by Vincent.
