Remarkable achievement for Raise The Flag
Raise The Flag, who stands at White Robe Lodge was the leading New Zealand-based sire on the Australia general sires by stakes winners list for 2017 -18 at May 21, 2018.
Raise The Flag was 18th on the overall list with a mere 12 runners in Australia this season. He has sired nine winners of 19 races and $1,281,060 in stakes.
Yogi became the fifth individual stakes winner sired by Raise The Flag this season with success in the $A150,000 Port Adelaide Cup (2500m) at Morphettville on Saturday. The others are Broadside (group three Newcastle Cup and listed ATC Cup), Etah James (gr 3 Lord Reims Stakes), Civil Disobedience (Tasmanian Derby) and Parthesia (Bagot Handicap).
Parthesia won the listed Tasmanian Oaks last season when Raise The Flag also sired Raise You Ten, winner of the listed Gore Guineas.
Yogi (ex unraced Malozza, by Grand Lodge ) was bred by D G and H A Voice, of Christchurch and sold for $1000 to Washdyke trainer Warwick Coles at the 2014 South Island sale. Yogi was on-sold to Australia after five starts for Coles. Yogi was first past the post over 1600m at Riccarton for Coles but he was later disqualified. Yogi has now won six races from 21 starts and $307,138. He is trained by Darren Weir, who also has Parthesia and Civil Disobedience.
Chequered Flag (Raise The Flag - Star Of Mulwala), another member of the stable, finished third in the listed $200,000 Ramsden Stakes (3200m) at Flemington on Saturday.
The WRL -bred Max (Gallant Guru -Vitique) won the $50,000 Waikato Steeplechase, a prestige jumping race at Te Rapa on Saturday.
