Stable Success at Wingatui on Melbourne Cup Day
Melbourne Cup Day 2019 was another successful day at Wingatui for White Robe Lodge picking up two winners on the day.
Outram (Gallant Guru - Minnaloushka) picked up his second win from just 5 starts in the Dunedin Casino Rating 65 1200. Outram was ridden by Jacob Lowry who produced a strong win after coming from back and coming wide to then finish in front across the line. He is owned by long-time supporters of the stable in Ian Nichol, Ray Keen, Rob Johnstone & Owen Diack. Brian and Shane will now look to target some races over the upcoming summer racing circuit with him and look to step the gelding up in distance, as he progresses through the grades.
Stable stalwart Gallant Boy (Gallant Guru - Mega Babe) picked up his twelfth career win in the Harcourts Dunedin Open 1400 with stable apprentice, Corey Campbell, in the saddle. He jumped well and sat third in the running, peeling off their back in the run home to kick strong and win by half a length. Gallant Boy will now head to the Group 3 Coupland's Bakeries Mile at Riccarton Park. It was fantastic to see another winner for the late Pat Smith, with his wife Janis, continuing to show a strong interest in the horses.
Zabay and Raise Ya Cards both had strong runs in their respective races and look to improve off their runs.
Resident sire Raise the Flag kicked the day off with a winner in the first. The Terry Kennedy trained Ray's in Command (RTF - Kay's Command) won convincingly over the 1600 by 2 lengths, with Chris Johnson in the saddle.
