Smokin’ Romans Prevails In The Listed Warrnambool Cup

WRL bred Smokin’ Romans added yesterday's Listed Warrnambool Cup to his already impressive resume and took his Stake earnings to over 2.3 million AUD. Jockey Ben Melham rated the rising 8 year old beautifully in the lead and Smokin’ Romans carrying top weight of 59kg, dug deep when he asked him too.
The win gave his trainer Ciaron Maher his first victory in the time honoured race.
WRL Principal Brian Anderton got a huge thrill out of the victory and was quite emotional after the gelding held on to win the 2350m event. He was pleased his grandsons Jake Lowry (strapped the horse) and Jack Stewart were on course, to cheer the gelding home.
Smokin’ Romans dam, the multiple Stakes winner Inferno, is still part of the WRL Broodmare band. We also have 3 of her half and full siblings we are breeding from. Afire, a full sister to Smokin Romans, is a recent winner as a three year old and is part of our racing team.
